Do you remember when you were a kid & used to ride your bicycle everywhere? Boy, I sure do; & I remember one of my rituals was to pedal over to the gas station & air up my bicycle tires with the compressed air nozzle beside the gas pumps - oh and that was free of charge, a free service to customers.
These days, I suppose kids don’t ride their bikes as much as we used to, & only few of them have access to free air at service stations. These days, the vast majority of gas stations have a big metal tower placed out by the street, at which you pay for your air. Can you believe it - charging for air? What a racket.
Airing our tires this way would be fine, if it wasn’t for the incovenience of having to stop & restart our cars or, even worse, letting the engine run while we air up our tires, thus wasting our expensive gasoline. Another thing is those metal towers pump out the air at such a slow rate, it would discourage any sane person from wanting to air up his tires as much as he should.
We are told we can save as much as 3% on our gasoline if we air up our tires. This may not sound like much, but when applied to the whole US population, it’s a staggering sum, & seas more than we could ever tap offshore or in Alaska.
Join me in encouraging gas stations to build up some goodwill by going back to the good old days of providing free air right next to the gas pumps. Your planet depends on it. Being Greener:
